Watch out Little Mermaid! There’s a new tail in town.
Helene Boudreau is an author I aspire to be. Although this is a book targeted for readers 9 and up I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m 30! I also kept wondering where this book was when I was young and impressionable. :)
Jade is a young girl trying to get through teenage life. With mockery, crushes, and lies she could be found in each one of us but then she becomes someone incredible we all only hope to become some day. We learn what it means to be a best friend, what secrets are ok to keep and to give someone the benefit of the doubt – always.
Friends are forgiving when you need them to be the most and this tale teaches the lesson of being yourself when all else fails. A delightful tale that beautifully transitions from land to water and back with an imagination all children would love to have.
Ode to Ickyis a book I received as a review copy and read through my Kindle to my 2 year old son.
He LOVED the pictures as he’s very much into naming things right now and giggled and yelled “pee-u” throughout. Even though it was black and white he connected immediately to this story, as did I.
The story is simply but whimsical and absolutely had me wanting more. It followed Candy, a young girl who has a stinky cat and a big sister in her family. Always the entrepreneur Candy learned a trick from her big sister and decided to use Icky, the cat too lazy to bathe, as a money making opportunity.
This book was a great introduction to Ikcy and Candy but it certainly made me want to know more as I connected with Candy’s antics immediately.
When I get the printed book I’m sure my son will love it as much as I do!
